The Best Oregon Fisheries this year (2017) for me were kokanee, and bottom fishing for Ling Cod and Sea bass.  The last couple years of poor salmon runs especially Spring salmon and the almost non existent Summer Steelhead on the Santiam River have made for difficult Springs for lots of guides.  The Columbia River however I'm hopping will have better returns in the future with gill nets finally being removed this year.  Now we need to work on the removing sea lions from the  Columbia and Willamette Rivers.   Researchers this year reported that sea lions on the Willamette river will probably [...]

Green Peter and Detroit Kokanee Fishing is one of Oregon's great Summer Fishing opportunities.   There are many lakes in Oregon that produce or are stocked with kokanee.  Green Peter and Detroit Reservoirs are the two I run my guide business on.  Set in the cascade mountains they are very scenic.  With camping areas for tents or RV's on them or near by. Oregon Winter Steelhead fishing is still in full swing.  The rivers have been very unpredictable because of all the rain making for a lot of cancellations.  At least its not below freezing as it was in the first several weeks of the season.  As the Oregon rivers have been dropping into shape these silver bullets have been cooperative and willing to bite if we keep our presentations right.   Bobber dogging yarnies and beads have been my best producers.  Every day on the river has been different as to which the fish prefer.  In March there will be Winter Steelhead [...]

Oregon Winter Steelhead fishing may be a bit cold but we are picking up fish! After the water drops after the run off we are expecting winter steelhead fishing to pick back up. On the average the fish are bigger than last year and the season should be getting better and better as February goes on.
